Bamboo Flowering

Tea Stick Bamboo, Pseudosasa amabilis

Bamboo flowers rarely and for many species this is a once in a century event or more. Consequently, seed is largely unavailable. Try Ms. Lihua Jiang at Yunnan Bamboo Nursery

To grow more bamboo, the same original plant is continuously divided up and spread around.

Bizarrely, when a bamboo species flowers, it does so in unison world wide. And once a bamboo flowers the plant usually dies.

A clue to deciding where a species of bamboo originated is that, in this particular place, not all of the same species flower at the same time.
