Clumping Bamboo

Clumping Bamboo is simply non-invasive bamboo.

Here, the culm and the rhizome are one.
The upper part of the short rhizome has buds, one of which develops into another very short rhizome and then turns upward to emerge from the ground as a secondary culm close to the parent.

This process is repeated yearly, with the result that all the culms are grouped closely together.

As with the Running type, Clumping Bamboo can be propagated by dividing the whole plant.

Clumping bamboo can also be grown from cuttings.
Those species having thick walls being the easiest to propagate.
Clumping species, being semi tropical, should not be divided or have the roots tampered with during cold months, even for two months prior to the onset of cold weather.
The condition of the plant will decline over winter if it has not been established in its planting site.

Clump-forming bamboo has the new shoots coming from the parent plant itself.
